M.S. in Animals and Public Policy Externship Experience (MAPP)
July-August 2018
Colleen Parker
I spent my summer working as Farm Sanctuary’s education and outreach intern in the organization’s head office in Los Angeles. As a member of the communications team, I used research and communication skills that I practiced at Tufts to promote compassionate lifestyle choices and educate the public about industrial agriculture practices and legislation. I wrote, proofread, and fact checked new and existing outreach materials including fact sheets, op eds, and action alerts. I also coordinated logistics and managed volunteers for outreach events (including the 2018 Animal Rights National Conference) and assisted in developing social media outreach strategies. The communication skills I’ve developed in the MAPP program combined with my applied experiences at Farm Sanctuary have equipped me to be an effective advocate for animals, people, and the environment, and I look forward to continue using and developing these skills as I leave Tufts and begin my career!
