Hails from Rhode Island
B.S. in Animal Science
University of Rhode Island, 2019
Hey, everyone! My name is Becky. I graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2019 with a bachelor’s in animal science. Since then, I have been working as a veterinary technician at Wood River Animal Hospital in Wyoming, Rhode Island. I decided to apply to the MS-IDGH program in order to further my education prior to attending veterinary school. I have always aspired to be a veterinarian, and I eventually hope to specialize in infectious disease education, prevention, and control. I was particularly interested in Tufts’ program because of Cummings School’s focus on One Health. I am so excited to be able to work with so many people who share the same values! In undergrad, I worked as a research assistant on a project that studied the effects and possible treatments and prevention for Haemonchus contortus in sheep and goats. I was also a teaching assistant for infectious diseases and loved helping other students understand the finer details of individual diseases as well as the importance of preventative medicine and practices. Now, as a veterinary technician, I am able to aid veterinarians in preventative medicine and help treat/diagnose diseases in animals. Some of my favorite activities outside work and school include gardening, camping, home renovations, and interior design, and training guide dogs! I currently have three dogs and 18 chickens. One of my pups is currently in training to be a guide dog through the non-profit organization Guiding Eyes for the Blind. I have been volunteering with Guiding Eyes for six years and just recently helped open a Rhode Island region as regional coordinator.
