About
As Distinguished Professor and Agnes Varis University Chair in Science and Society, I play a leading role in the master’s program. Like my colleagues, I bring many strengths to this program and believe in its mission and objectives of addressing critical issues in global health.
I have years of research experience with viral, bacterial, fungal and protozoal infectious diseases as well as toxin-mediated diseases. PubMed currently lists more than 260 publications reflecting the nature of my scientific endeavors and expertise. I’ve simultaneously directed multi-project and multicenter scientific programs nationally and globally, and at Tufts, I’ve established and led the infectious diseases group of approximately 65-75, extramurally funded by NIH, DOD, EPA, FDA, CDC, USDA and USAID.
My years as Associate Director and Division head at ICCDR (International Center for Diarrheal Diseases Research) in Bangladesh, allowed me many accomplishments in directing labs, establishing research units and educational programs, supervising studies, soliciting funding and support, and more.
The demand for well-trained graduates in infectious disease and related fields will increase exponentially over the next decade. I am pleased to be part of an experienced and dedicated team here at Cummings School committed to meeting that demand.
