Why did you choose to pursue this degree, and why did you choose Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to pursue this degree?
My name is Audrey. I am from San Francisco, California. I bring one year of pharmaceutical development experience, one year of oncology research through murine models in both specific pathogen free and germ-free settings, and four years of emergency veterinary technician experience. After completing the MS-IDGH program, I plan on pursuing my DVM to become an emergency and critical care veterinarian. I also have an interest in researching neglected tropical diseases. In my spare time, I enjoy searching for ugly cat figurines, watching A24 films with my fiancé, and expanding my collection of unfinished video games and books. I also share my apartment with my firstborn feline, Mina.
Both of my parents are chemistry majors, so I was constantly exposed to science and medicine content from a young age. Zoonotic diseases have always been a special interest of mine, with Ebola being a favorite. A book I loved as a kid was The Hot Zone by Richard Preston, which is about the E. reston outbreak in the United States back in the 80s. I always knew I would get into a career involving disease, which is part of what lead me into the veterinary medicine career. The MS-IDGH program offers me the opportunity to explore this niche and its applications while earning a graduate degree in a short amount of time. Tufts University is one of my top schools for veterinary medicine, but it is very competitive.
What are your career goals after completing the program?
I am pursuing graduate education to set myself apart from other candidates. I hope that by completing the MS-IDGH program, I will demonstrate my ability to handle the academic rigor of veterinary school, if not at Tufts, then at another school.
