Hails from Germany
Biology and Chemistry
Mount Holyoke College, 2019

My name is Mirjam Keochakian and I graduated from Mount Holyoke College in May 2019. I was a Biology major and Chemistry minor. After graduation, I returned home to Germany, where I spent my summer traveling through Europe and visiting family.

I first came into contact with infectious diseases and global health during my semester abroad in Ghana in 2018. While at the University of Ghana, I took a Public Health Zoology class that covered diseases such as schistosomiasis and malaria among others. In the laboratory section, we examined various parasites and their hosts and fixed and stained RBCs of infected rats to discover the different stages of plasmodium. I decided to join the MS-IDGH program to gain more laboratory experience, especially on a microbiological level and I am hoping to pursue a career as a physician in a global health setting in the future. Outside of school, I enjoy playing field hockey and teaching/spreading the sport across the globe.
