Hails from California
B.S. in Molecular Biology
University of California, San Diego, 2019
Hello everyone! My name is Juliana Barrett, and I’m happy to be here in Massachusetts for the MS-IDGH program. I’m coming to Tufts from my home state of California with my two-year-old cat named Chowder, and we are both so excited for this new adventure. In 2019, I completed my undergraduate degree in molecular biology from the University of California, San Diego, along with my minor in global health. At UCSD, I was able to refine my laboratory skills with courses in recombinant DNA and biochemical techniques. More importantly, I was able to study microbial biology and molecular virology, which gave me the foundation to pursue a graduate education in the field of infectious disease. Throughout this program, I look forward to gaining a well-rounded perspective on the zoonotic diseases that pose biological threats to human and animal populations, along with mastering the necessary laboratory skills that will prove crucial to my global health career. Upon graduation, I plan on pursuing a Ph.D., so that I can take steps towards my goal of working for the WHO or another organization with the mission of improving the global standard of health. Outside school, I enjoy all outdoor activities including camping, hiking, and skiing, along with reading, traveling, and binging my favorite shows. I look forward to meeting all of you!
