Meet Jennifer Schilling, MCM’18, “My name is Jenny Schilling. I am a Utah native who graduated from Washington State University with a BS in Biology and minor in Neuroscience. As an undergraduate, I spent much of my free time volunteering at local veterinary clinics and animal organizations until branching out internationally to assist with spay/neuter clinics and veterinary clinical care campaigns in the Dominican Republic and Peru. After graduation, I took a year off to catch my breath, and spent my time volunteering with a whale shark conservation research group in the Maldives and at a street animal rescue hospital in Thailand before traveling solo around Southeast Asia. These experiences actively showed me a variety of work in the field of animal aid and conservation medicine, as well as sparking my interests beyond veterinary medicine and into areas I had not yet considered. The MCM is so appealing for the One Health focused, interdisciplinary, and hands-on approach with endless opportunities through the program–which I hope will extrapolate my interests in marine mammal conservation and population dynamics, and sustainable tourism. In my spare time I love to hike, paddleboard, practice yoga & photography, and travel—usually all with my dog.”
