My name is Jaselyn Owens and I earned my Bachelor’s of Science in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2018. Prior to entering the MCM Program, I was working for the past couple of years in fisheries. I worked as a Fisheries Observer in Alaska and  as a Fisheries Technician in the smolt monitoring lab at a hydroelectric dam facility. This summer, I completed an internship with Mote Marine Lab concentrating on coral health and conservation research. The aspects of the MCM program that drew me in were its focus on collaboration and its multidisciplinary approach to conservation issues. My interests in conservation medicine are focused in marine conservation and its crucial role in global health. I hope to create a career that utilizes scientific research to aid communities in making informed decisions for the betterment of their health and the health of the environment. My outside interests include doing anything outdoors, especially on or by the water, and just trying to enjoy life. I have two pets-Pippa, my dog, and Lana, my cat.
