Carly Mercer, MS in Animals and Public Policy Class of 2017-2018
During my time at Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) I learned and applied so many skills. I divided up my time between the Humane Education Department, mainly working to prepare and conduct summer camp with my boss Debbie Duel, and Humane Law Enforcement, where a large portion of my time was spent editing the department’s Responsible Pet Ownership class under the guidance from Zita Macinanti. During my externship my Excel and questionnaire design skills that I learned during my classes in the MAPP program were extremely valuable. By working at HRA I developed skills in creating humane education curriculum, working with kids, and all about animal cruelty casework and investigation. I plan to use these skills especially curriculum design as I pursue a career in humane education or wildlife education and outreach.
