Erica Bacellar Soares DVM, MCM’17 is from Brazil. She received her DVM from Paulista University – São Paulo.  “ I have been privileged to grow up in a country where the fauna is rich and from a very young age I knew that I would become a veterinarian.  In my first year of Vet school, I attended a course on Wildlife Medicine and Conservation. My experiences during this course confirmed my goal to dedicate my life to the fight for wildlife conservation. During and after my graduation I have continually present intense dedication to the wildlife medicine studies, and I always sought positions that will help me improve as a wildlife professional. I worked as a small and exotic animal Veterinarian until I was called to be the chief veterinarian at a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation at the northeast part of the Amazon Rain Forest. I also had the opportunity to work with rehabilitation in different Brazilian Biomes, but my real passion was always the Amazon. After completing the MCM Program, my goal is to build a rehabilitation center in the Amazon with conservation programs for endangered species like the Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja).”
