Emma Gardner MCM’13 accepted a 3 month contract with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations at their headquarters in Rome. She’s been hired as a junior epidemiologist to work on risk assessment issues surrounding the H7N9 Avian Influenza outbreak(s) in China. “This type of work has been a goal of mine since finishing vet school in 2010, and it’s incredibly gratifying and exciting that my hard work and achievements have been acknowledged, and that I’ve been offered this opportunity.“ In 2013, she was supported by Tufts Institute of the Environment (TIE) and the University of Sydney to present her work on Newcastle Disease and Avian Influenza in Africa at the GRF One Health Summit 2013, http://vet.tufts.edu/wp-content/uploads/Gardner-MCM-case-study-pub-article.pdf. Emma is currently pursuing a PhD in the Department of Population Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College (University of Guelph). She hails from Toronto, Canada and received her BA in Religious Studies and Linguistics from McGill University, Montreal.
