Hails from New Jersey
Biology
Montclair State University, 2019
My name is Daniel Gomez, but everyone calls me Danny. I was born and raised in New Jersey and attended Montclair State University, where I majored in Biology and graduated this past January 2019. Earning my bachelor’s degree was a proud moment for me as I am a first-generation college graduate in my family. While in college, I took several courses that specify in the veterinary and infectious diseases field including ornithology, parasitology, and herpetology (to name a few). My main goal is to pursue a veterinary career, and I am applying to a variety of vet schools for next fall. So, when I received an email from Tufts about the MS-IDGH program I quickly took advantage. I am hoping that I could use the post-graduate degree combined with a DVM degree to pursue a career in the laboratory animal field. Since my junior year in college I have been working at a small two doctor animal hospital. We mainly see dogs and cats, but it was interesting to see a variety of illnesses and methods of treatment. Working in an animal hospital I have had experience in running certain lab work to test for certain pathogens, such as Lyme disease or heartworm. While in college I also worked in my school’s vivarium, here I learned how to manage lab mice and making sure that they have comfortable living arrangements. Outside of school I tend to seek things to relax my body and mind. I have been keen on fitness and have been doing CrossFit for about three years. As for hobbies, I like to read comic books and I usually watch comedy shows on Netflix or Hulu (The Office and Parks and Rec. are my absolute favorite). As of right now I have one crested gecko, I got her when she was just five weeks old and is now going on to a healthy two years.
