Brown University’s Animal Research Protection Program 2019 (Click link to see presentation)
Aleksandra (Ola) Marczak
I spent my summer in Providence, RI working in Brown University’s Office of Research Integrity, where I primarily assisted the Animal Research Protection Program (ARPP), an administrative support team for Brown’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). I expanded my knowledge as well as understanding of the different facets of animal research and its regulatory bodies. I assisted with committee proceedings, participated in animal facility inspections and drafted policies. During the MAPP program I learned about the history of animal research and how regulations have helped shape the current animal research industry. While at my externship at Brown I immersed myself into the different components of animal research and contributed to the creation of a more formalized and robust post approval monitoring program. With the support of my mentors at Brown, I learned how to apply these new principles and skills into a career path focused on animal welfare in the research industry.
