Meet Amalia Saladrigas, MCM’18, “I was convinced that I wanted to be a veterinarian (later a marine mammal vet) since I was three, but during my shadowing experiences and my undergraduate career, my interests pulled me to more interdisciplinary projects. After working with orphaned wallabies in the Sheoak Ridge Nature Reserve in Queensland, Australia, and assessing the threatened marine mammal population in the Mediterranean, I decided to focus my studies on conservation issues at the crossroads of human-wildlife interactions. I graduated from Stanford University with a BS in Marine Biology, and was interning at Franklin Park Zoo when I came across the MCM program; it seemed like a great fit! I was raised in Barcelona and Puerto Rico, and I love traveling, reading, learning new languages, and spending time near or in the ocean. Back in San Juan, our house really belongs to our two dogs (Verónica and Tristana) and two cats (Charlie and Hamlet).”
